St. Brendan’s Knights of Columbus Council, will host a community Basketball Free Throw Contest for boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 14. All youth participants are welcome. Bring a friend! The event will be held in the City of Cumming, Dobbs Creek Recreation Facility on Sunday, January 29, 2012. Onsite registration will begin at 1:00 pm and the contest will promptly start at 1:30 pm and end around 3 pm. Registration forms and details may be downloaded from the Knights website http://www.kofc12942.org/ , or in the Narthex the church main entrance, or obtained at the recreation facility.
Directions: Dobbs Creek Park & Recreation Center, 1115 Dahlonega Highway, Cumming Ga 30040, 11/4 mile North on Rte 9 (Dahlonega Hwy) from the City of Cumming City Hall, in downtown. Take exit 15 from GA 400 North bound, turn left at he light at the end of the ramp.
Go west for approximately 1 mile. Turn right on Route 9 North (Dahlonega St). Dobbs Creek is located 1-1/4 mile on left (across from the Forsyth County Board of Education building).
Contestants compete within their own gender and age group with competition starting on local levels. Winners move on to the district, and state levels. International winners will be selected based on overall score.
District Competition:
· District competition has not been scheduled as yet, but will be sometime at the
end of January – early February.
· Each contestant receives three free throw warm-up tosses followed by 25 consecutive free throw attempts from the foul line.
· No warm-up tosses are permitted for the tie-breaker rounds. To break a tie, contestants take successive rounds of five free throws each until the tie is broken and a winner is determined.
All participants must be ready for competition at the designated start time.
