Dear St. Brendan’s Knight of Columbus:

The Teen Navigators, St. Brendan Catholic Community’s Youth Ministry Program, would like to extend our most heart felt “THANKS” for your support of our 4th annual “Cardboard Box City – 24 Homeless Experience” Retreat and “Fish & Faith” Lenten Service Project.  The retreat allowed the teens to experience a small slice of what the homeless experience every day.  In addition, it helps to raise awareness of the homeless situation throughout the community, to show teens in a positive light as they struggle to help make a difference, and to collect canned goods, blankets and money that are so desperately needed by the homeless and less fortunate of our area.  Upon return to our Parish campus, the entire St Brendan’s Catholic Community was invited to help us sort and bag the collected items and prepare them to be delivered to the needy.

In conjunction with Cardboard Box City, the St. Brendan’s Teen Navigators helped sponsor the Lenten Service Project “Fish & Faith”.  This project allowed families to provide personal hygiene items, bottled water and individually packaged snacks for the homeless.  Our Middle School Youth then sorted and bagged all of the hygiene items into hygiene packs.  Over 150 families came back together for a Friday evening event where they prepared peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and then put together personal care packages consisting of sandwiches, bottled water, individual snacks, and hygiene packs.

Just to let you know what a difference your support made, please consider our results…

§         We collected over 8,000 canned goods which our High school teens personally placed on the shelves of the North Fulton Community Charities Food Pantry

§         We collected over 75 jars of peanut butter and jelly and 20 bags of clothing which were donated to The Place of Forsyth County

§         We collected over 5,000 packets of Ramen Noodles which were donated to the Atlanta Union Mission

§         We collected over $1,000 which will support the St. Francis’ Table ministry for one month, helping to feed over 29,000 families

§         We prepared over 2,000 peanut butter & jelly sandwiches

§         We put together over 400 personal hygiene packs which included soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, deodorant and other personal items

§         We put together over 800 care packages which included food, water and hygiene items which were distributed to the homeless in Atlanta through the Seven Bridges to Recovery Ministry

§         We collected over 150 blankets, pillows, sleeping bags and tarps for the homeless

§         We empowered children and families to make a difference by actively participating in a project that helps our less fortunate Brothers and Sisters in Christ

§         We empowered our High School teens to become the hands and feet of Christ as they took to the Streets of Atlanta and through the Seven Bridges Ministry met with the homeless providing care packs, blankets, and most importantly prayers and kindness

Your contribution of retreat security was most welcome and greatly appreciated.  Once again, please accept our sincere thanks and know that we are only able to make a difference when we all come together in the spirit of social justice.

Yours in Christ—The TEEN NAVIGATORS…St. Brendan Catholic Community’s Youth Ministry Program
